March 2023

Now, Archived

Howdy friend! It’s the end of March in the year of our Lorde twenty-twenty-three. This page is here to keep you—the readers—up to date with my life and times.

The goal is to be a bridge between the curation of self that is my about page, and the overshare of a daily blog. My hope is that this update finds you well, happy, and healthy mentally and otherwise.

As always I present you with present me.

James Mathias is giving you a dramatic side-eye as you peer into his inner-sanctum. His hair shorn to the scalp, beard trimmed, and wearing ivory colors over ear headphones.

Since last time, I’ve started waking an hour earlier to get some quiet reading time in every day. This dedicated time has proven fruitful! I have read 3 books in 3 weeks, including starting and abandoning a fourth. I put up a reading section to catalog the books, and what I take from them as I go along. Tomorrow morning I start my fourth (fifth) book.

Really enjoying this new habit!

I shaved my head. My hair had been bothering me for a while, and ever since I was a little kid I’ve used shaving my head as a reset when I feel overwhelmed or needing a change. So I decided to do it, and see. Also I’ve been noticing some thinning in the front, and I wanted to see how bad it was. It’s mostly cause the hair there has turned white, so it looks worse than it is, especially in pictures.

6 months into my time at Mozilla, a few bumps here and there, but I have to keep telling myself I’m new, there is 20+ years of history and software that I haven’t absorbed yet. I’ll get there.

We released the first version of our documentation website, and I’m so proud of the team effort that got us there. Working on release number 2, and super excited for the future!

I added a new Funko Pop! page to the sundry section. I have a quite a few and I wanted to share with folks.

If the Pop! is still mint in the box, I took a photo of the box side and used that for its image, and if it was out of the box, I took a photo of the figure and mocked up a generic box side for it.

Overall I’m very happy with how it came out!

I’ve reduced my game collection by over 242, with another stack ready to go as well. I’m still donating them to a local board game cafe, as opposed to dealing with auctions and shipping and haggling.

I finished producing the rest of the Age of Steam maps for the Redrawn project. What a relief to finally have the road map cleared. I have more plans and ideas for the project, but I’m taking a little break, as I produced around 29 maps in just under a week.

Well that’s it for now, see ya next quarter!
