Before this book, I was lukewarm on the Primarch of the First Legion. Don't get me wrong Lion El'Jonson is about as cool as they come. Fighter, noble, fast, strong, decisive. And I was a little turned-off on the one-note examples of no-nonsense or nuance, no second chances attitude towards his fallen sons.
Son of the Forest bought me a Heineken and changed all that.
The older, wiser El'Jonson is a fleshed out, real super human. Real character, actual emotions, and the ability to learn, grow, and understand that admitting to his flaws is real strength.
Stunning story, and it made me a Dark Angels fan for life.
